Frequently Asked Questions

Farmhouse Tables & Furniture

Do you have a showroom where I can see your tables?

It is important for us to deliver exceptional value at both product and price. We believe our high-end hardwood farmhouse tables don’t have to come at a premium marked-up price. By not having a showroom and primarily selling directly to our customers online, we avoid much of the costly overhead.

We offer a color sample pack that we can ship out to you prior to placing your order. You'll be able to see what the actual color and texture will look like on real stained wood to match your home and decor.

How long will it take to get my furniture?

Custom made farmhouse tables are our specialty. We don’t have a warehouse full of dining tables and furniture that we can ship out the door after you place your order. From start to finish, we can build a farmhouse table and bench in 2 weeks. However, your "wait time" is typically between 4-6 weeks depending on how many orders we have in the works prior to yours. Email us and we will give you a more accurate estimate.

What's the difference between Pine and White Oak wood?

Pine is a common softwood with lots of knots and rustic character. We offer it at a cheaper price point, however because of its softness it can easily be damaged with nicks and scratches (especially from those kiddos) and has a tendency to move more. It is very common to see a lot of shrinking and swelling of pine as the seasons change.

Hardwoods like our White Oak are sustainable, durable, versatile, and just look gorgeous. They have denser wood fibers, come with close grain, and require low maintenance (perfect for kids). Furniture created out of hardwoods will sustain over your lifetime.

That is why we fully believe in investing in high-quality hardwoods for a table that will get more beautiful with time and last for generations.

Do you build chairs for the tables?

No, we only build benches for our tables. We have customers who may only order one bench because they have their own set of chairs or plan on purchasing them. A great look is to put chairs on one side of your table and a bench on the other.

Whether you like modern, industrial, vintage, etc., our farmhouse tables look great with any color and style of chairs!

Will moving the table and benches scratch my floor?

All tables and benches come with heavy duty felt pads on the bottom of the legs for easy sliding and protection on any floor type. Also the benches easily slide in and out when seating. No lifting required!

Can you build me a custom table size?

Absolutely! Just contact us with the custom size you prefer and we will let you know what we can do for you.

Will I need to assemble my table?

Yes. All our farmhouse tables will come disassembled. Not to worry, we've provided the hardware and simple instructions for you to easily put it back together in minutes! This makes it easier for you to pickup and carry it into your home and for our drivers if you decide to have it delivered. A wrench and drill is all you will need.

What is rustic?

We use real wood that contains saw marks, holes, cracks, knots, and other beautiful imperfections. We embrace the natural look of wood and its imperfections. This is what gives our pieces their unique and rustic, barn-wood feel. All are hand cut, left in their natural state, then stained and sealed.

It is important to understand that real wood moves with the change of seasons. As time goes by your table top will expand and contract with the change of seasons and humidity. During these changes you will notice seams open up and close and minor gaps. This is not a defect in the material or an issue with the workmanship; it is the result of the natural movement of the wood. This is expected and unavoidable.

We feel that these natural characteristics and occurrences only continue to add to the rustic character that makes this furniture both beautiful and unique. This is what makes every one of our custom farmhouse tables and furniture one of a kind.

Do you build heirloom furniture?

Yes we do! Our heirloom tables are made from beautiful, high quality hardwoods like White Oak and Walnut. Hardwoods are strong, durable and can resist everyday wear and tear. These pieces are passed from one generation to another. Heirloom furniture is of such high quality that one's great grandchildren may enjoy it.

Do you offer a warranty?

Great Lakes Farmhouse stands by our product and believe our craftsmanship and materials are superior to mass produced, imported furniture. Therefore, we offer a 3 month warranty on our farmhouse tables after delivery or pickup.

What is covered in our 3 month warranty: Your table is made with real solid wood, not from manufactured pressboard you find in all stores. Real wood moves with the seasons and humidity. Our tables are made with the expectation that the wood will move. And as time goes by it is important to understand that real wood can shrink, crack, bow and gap from time to time with temperature and humidity changes. You will also see some seams open and close during the change in seasons. This is expected and unavoidable. However, while it is extremely rare, we want to ensure our customers that any abnormal splitting on the tabletop surface will be repaired or replaced. If we see that any damage is due to our craftsmanship or our material we will repair or replace it free of charge.

What is not covered: We finish your table with the finest materials we can buy. If there is unlikely damage to the surface top coat (scratches, hot dishes, moisture rings) or color damage then we believe this falls outside of our craftsmanship and is not covered under warranty.

If after 3 months you are in need of repair of your table we are happy to attempt at restoring it to its former state and bill you for the repair. If you are outside of Michigan we are happy to help you find a local furniture repair professional who will supply work just as excellent as our team.

Farmhouse Floating Shelves

How do the shelves mount to the wall?

Our floating shelves are built hollow and come with a custom wall cleat. The cleat screws into the wall studs and the shelf slides over completely concealing the wall cleat. Instructions and screws are all included. All you need is a drill to install - very easy installation!

Delivery & Pickup

I live in Michigan, can I pickup my furniture?

Absolutely! In fact, most of our local customers prefer to pickup and save on shipping costs. Plus, we love meeting our customers! We'll email you when your furniture is ready for pickup. Just come on over to our place in Hartland, Michigan with your truck, blankets, straps, and some friends (furniture is heavy). We’ll get you taken care of.

How much is it to ship my order?

We ship our farmhouse tables anywhere in Michigan and the U.S. for a flat rate of $300.

We use a private driver for our deliveries. HE WILL NEED HELP unloading these pieces once it arrives AND please be flexible with your schedule as he gets closer to arriving. He will call when he's a few days out to schedule a delivery. Once the item is in the drivers hands, it is his responsibility. If something is wrong when the shipment arrives, please notify the driver to schedule a return or discussion with us. Please allow 1-2 weeks for your furniture to be delivered.

All our farmhouse tables will come disassembled. Not to worry, we've provided the hardware and simple instructions for you to easily put it back together in minutes!

Cancellation & Refund

What is your cancellation & refund policy?

You have 2 days after you purchase to cancel your order for a full refund. Since each table and furniture is made to order we cannot accept cancellations after 2 days, as your custom piece has been scheduled into our production pipeline, labor and materials for your order have been ordered and stocked, and the cost of constructing your custom piece is underway.

If you are not 100% satisfied with your new farmhouse furniture, this needs to be expressed upon pickup or delivery and we will do our best to make adjustments to your order to meet your satisfaction.

By choosing to accept your order on the day of pickup or delivery confirms you are fully accepting your order in its "as is," unique, rustic condition. Meaning you are fully satisfied to keep it forever.

We use real wood. And as time goes by it is important to understand that real wood contains natural knots, grains and imperfections and can shrink, crack, bow and gap from time to time with temperature and humidity changes. We feel that these natural characteristics and occurrences only continue to add to the rustic character that makes this furniture both beautiful and unique. Likewise, wood colors obtained by staining or using paint can vary from one piece to another as each piece is one of a kind. For these reasons, no refunds or exchanges will be made on any order beyond pickup or delivery.
